Cuando fotografío a una persona, en general intento que hagan lo que quieran para que puedan ser ellos mismos. De esa manera entro en su personalidad y así me cuentan una historia con su gesto y mirada.

When I take a picture of someone, in general, I try to let them do whatever they want and most of all allow them to be themselves. This way I enter into his personality so they tell me a story with their gesture and look.

Ella era una integrante de un grupo folclórico en Chiapas, México. Estuvieron toda la mañana actuando para una orgullosa audiencia mexicana, yendo arriba y abajo del escenario, cambiando sus vestidos. Le pedí si podía sacarle una foto, ella sonrió, asintió y volvió a sonreir, esta vez mirando a la lente de mi cámara.

She was a dancer for a folk group in Chiapas, Mexico. They were performing the whole morning for a Mexican proud audience, going up and down the stage, changing their costumes. I asked for a picture, she smiled, nod and smiled again, this time looking into my lens.

Un hombre de Oaxaca, México. Siempre quise hacer un retrato como este, la típica imagen de un hombre visitiendo sombrero con antiguas montañas al fondo. Las arrugas de la frente, su panza y el sombrero me dijo en aquel momento que no tuvo una vida fácil, su base alimentaria era el maiz y su piel había pasado muchas horas bajo el sol.

A man from Oaxaca, Mexico. I always wanted to take a portrait like this one, typical Mexican image of a man wearing a hat with ancient mountains on the background. His forehead wrinkles, his belly and the hat told me at the time that he didn't have an easy life, his food base was corn and his skin had been too many hours under the sun.

Navegando el Río Parismina en dirección Tortuguero. En Costa Rica aprendí que desarrollo y sostenibilidad pueden ir unidas. Que la concienciación sobre la naturaleza y cómo cuidarla empieza desde muy pequeño. Que todavía quedan lugares completamente vírgenes en el mundo. Que podemos convivir con animales salvajes sin invadir su territorio.

Sailing the Parismina River towards Tortuguero. In Costa Rica I learned that development and sustainability can go together. That awareness about nature and how to take care of it starts at a very young age. That there are still completely virgin places in the world. That we can live together with wild animals without invading their territory.
